Approximately four years ago, Ray’s doctors discovered that he had an enlarged heart after suffering a stroke.  At that time he had a defibrillator and pacemaker surgically installed as a short term solution. On September 4, 2012, Ray re-entered the hospital with his heart no longer able to function on its own. At that time, he underwent surgery for an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) and RVAD (right ventricular assist device) to perform the hearts function for him. While Ray is now recovering well after some trying days post-surgery, the road ahead is still quite long.  An eventual heart transplant is the ultimate need.
Ray has a very loving and supportive family in his wife, Amanda, and three young children, Ray, Keyra and Eva.  In an effort to assist with mounting medical and household bills, a benefit for the Thompson family is being held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 115 Bourbon Street from 2pm to 7pm. Along with live entertainment; tickets include a buffet, soda, beer and wine. Benefit tickets are $30.00 in advance and $35.00 at the door.
